We don't fully understand the workings because it is (was?) classified as a drug, making research into it a lot more complicated. Thankfully there are charities and organizations that lobbied to make it more researchable.

I get why people wouldn't want (steam) trains in their proverbial back yard just as much as they wouldn't want datacenters. Trains may be a net benefit for a region's mobility and economy, but that doesn't undo the local

Nobody's denying that, what is your point? Or are you assuming they're banning LLM code wholesale based on just the headline?

Exactly this. There's plenty of boring software out there where writing the actual code is a chore. That's where AI works pretty well, as long as the people at the controls understand and can explain the problem and non-functional

I love how your analogy actually works with the real world. You can't fly a jet plane until you've got all the various licenses and logged flying hours in prop planes first.

I'm amazed that this pattern has been so ubiquitous for uh. Has it been years already? But they haven't tweaked the services yet to avoid these patterns.

This is (weirdly) in line with behaviour I've observed in iOS's date picker; if you set a block of dates as not available, and the selected date inside of that unavailable block, it will automatically select the first available da

If said billionaire enrichment company was really upset about it, they would be able to detect forbidden words like piracy even when replaced. It's not that difficult, it's a problem that was solved decades ago.

It allows you to play your games offline though, so if Steam's servers go down you can still play your games. I'm not sure if that's permanent or if you need to reactivate your DRM / license every once in a while though.
