This isn't wrong and that is one of the largest issues people have with C++: if something is syntactically correct in a language, chances are you'll find it in any relatively big codebase - and with C++ there are a LOT of things t

I'm not sure i follow the reasoning nor the example you gave. You can change and/or update the OS, both being outside of the computer manufacturer's control and that is assuming there was even a computer manufacturer and wasn

I think we'll read such headlines regardless of that setting :-P. I'm actually wondering if there should be some sort of premade "profiles" when it comes to default settings. Debian for example is used in a lot of contex

Isn't this a "sane" default only in specific contexts though? (VMs). For a desktop PC that almost always runs a single heavy task (games, rendering, video encoding, etc) hyperthreading can be a day and night difference.

Isn't the reason that technically the CPU is still fast and it is the OS (that is outside Intel's control) that slows it down? And AFAIK all OSes can disable these mitigations (are they even a concern for personal computers, esp

I'm not worried that much about the technical side though, it is the data hoarding tendencies most sites have that i'm worried about.

Of those only VSCode is a desktop application and VSCode is already a web browser. Also considering it is meant to be modular, its documentation system would also need to be modular and i'm not sure if CHM is good with that.

I think the latter is a much lesser risk, assuming the "works" in "if it works" is indeed correct. After all, sure, /usr has a funny history, but in practice it doesn't really bother anyone.

FWIW Lazarus[1] has its own CHM generator and CHM viewer which uses its own HTML engine written on top of its LCL framework, making it cross platform. Though personally i prefer the native viewer on Windows as LHelp (Lazarus' viewer) f

Hm, almost every desktop program i have on Windows that bothers with help uses CHM and pretty much every documentation generator can generate CHM files, why do you think it isn't used?

AGPL doesn't fix the problem as it isn't a matter of these companies using the code, but the developers being taken advantage of unfairly. Amazon publishing their modified Linux wont be of much help to anyone who isn't Amazon

I write such comments sometimes, the reason is simple: when a codebase has a lot of comments in general comments often act as separators of "groups of code" (and often read like short prose), so seeing a bit of code not having the
