While i agree with the first part, about the second part... Windows is hardly a monoculture, it contains a ton of technologies that overlap heavily each other. As an example, people used to make fun of the number of GUI toolkits available f

If you refer to Ctrl+Shift+Z, it is very common for redo and also very convenient since you switch between undo/redo by pressing Shift (which is also consistent with many other shortcuts that use Shift as a way to reverse their effect

One reason i prefer Bash (and i mean Bash not just any shell) is that it tends to stay stable - scripts written years ago work just fine today. These days i mainly use Bash on Windows (via MSYS2) and really it is available pretty much every

Eh, Photoshop hasn't really optimized their UI/UX, their UI goes back to the original MacPaint by Bill Atkinson (Photoshop started as a more powerful MacPaint) and has evolved over the years starting from that. It is just that it

No i think it is actually about philosophies (or at least a way of looking at how software should be made) - again, i point out to Borland (whose IDEs were always provided a way more integrated environment than anything Microsoft ever did -

Yeah most developers probably do not care, but it isn't like nobody cares (for example i do and i read comments like mine on HN often, so there are others who do too). At least when it comes to text editors there are options and you ca

FWIW personally with "native" i mean "native widgets too, where possible". It isn't always possible and i'm ok with that, but if your application uses a text edit area, a treebox for project files, a menu bar,

I do not remember Code::Blocks' configurations, but a Release configuration may still contain debug symbols so you can debug your release executable.

Are you sure it isn't debugging information that bloats the executable? Try a strip --strip-all your.exe and see if it is still that big.

Wouldn't Java 1.0 code still work in Java $LATEST even with modules? As i understand it the question was about keeping stuff working, not refusing to add new stuff.

Yeah, though i'm not sure if exceptions really slow down compilation and in some compilers you can disable them anyway. Also you can redefine new to return null on failure, though if you are going to use new, delete, etc might as well

The problem with C++ is that in addition to generic functionality, it also brings a ton of other baggage that even if you do not use, you still pay for (e.g. personally i really dislike how slow C++ compilers are). Though TBH i wouldn'
