A little awkward, but not too bad, even for an extremely introverted person like myself. Chances are the people who are there already were at one point in your shoes when they first attended. If you're nervous you can always post to/comment

Seconding this! Meetup.com has been great for me. I've met some really cool people there. It doesn't have to be programming related, even. There are many different activities, so perhaps you could find a hobby that gives you a break from pr

Living in denial and rationalizing obviously irrational/destructive choices is one of the things that bothers me most about humanity. When we finally go extinct, this will probably be a major if not THE major reason why. :/

"A recent survey of top MBA students found that 88% of graduates say they were happy with the investment they made." Funny, that's what all the unemployed liberal arts majors who spent $100,000 in student loans on their college degree said

I loved this so much. The visualizations were beautiful, and I'm appreciative of the effort that must have gone into such clear illustrations. The only thing I would suggest would be to make the slide progression arrows somewhat more eye-ca

There are also considerable ethical issues in assuming that people with estranged parents are somehow undeserving of a college education. If you have no family support, you need college more, not less. Of course, places like Stanford are fa

Wow, way to be a dick. I like how you also ignored the part where I said I had to wait six years for the aid WHICH I AM CURRENTLY NOW ON that you somehow think I'm still not familiar with due to laziness/stupidity.

Wearing a bra will actually make your boobs sag faster, not the other way around. It's a very common misconception among women, though, who apparently can't be bothered to look these things up before shoving "advice" down your throat that "

Your second + fits my situation exactly. My parents are divorced and neither would pay for college. I'm 24 and basically just starting college now that I can at least get enough loans from the government to afford community college tuition.

Unfortunately, a policy that is rarely actually followed. It's amazing how private colleges will bend over backwards to find you have an EFC that requires them to provide little to no financial assistance.

Yup, gotta love being punished for working hard. :/ It also especially sucks when you have a high EFC and your parents are only willing to contribute, uh, $0.

How much is the non resident tuition? How would you afford the living costs in a foreign country if you can't get a work visa? (It seems a lot of countries have severe work restrictions for students.) A poor US person might not even have en

Humans don't like to think about the fact that everything will end for them someday. Most people can barely plan for a week, much less for a century from now. Humanity's downfall will almost certainly stem from the shortsightedness of the m

We're such a small segment of history, though. We're just a blip on the timeline of the universe. Look at how our population has expanded in the last 100 years alone...some things are just unsustainable.
