It’s a patent from 1963. It expired in the 80s apparently. I guess it didn’t do too well, or even perhaps wasn’t made. Either way, a patent can be made by anyone. Don’t see this as a serious modern attempt at solving child birth. (Edit: aut

I disagree. “I’m fine, but I hit a bull on my way back home” is infinitely better because at no point is there any uncertainty about the condition of the person.

I came across mullvad some time ago (apparently they struck a deal with Mozilla). Anyway, their service is great and it is such a rare thing to just pay for a service without all the nonsense around. Just; click here to get an account. Noth

I don’t think it’s about being strict or condescending. In some HN readers the post will show up in a different catalogue and generally be easier for people to find, thus giving the post more visibility :) Edit; typo

Figuring out and serving the site to display the “disable Adblock” is likely more costly than to serve the content (unless its video). That being said; creators needs money to keep making what they are making. Too bad ads is such an all enc

With the power of a little too much time before a meeting, I give to you a slider; Add this somewhere which makes sense in the html; `<input type="range" min="0" step="1" id="mySlider" max="25

Very cool website. Would be nice with a slider in addition to the dropdown, so you could scrub backwards and forwards in time.

They would be running in a browser, and you can just deny it getting location information, but in general, apps have access to much more raw data than a tab in the browser does. It's also possible, in theory, to run a PWA in a differen

I assume there has to be some degree of survivor bias here. You get good content, which is good, but there might be great content that is never shown. But I do agree that “the algorithm” often finds content that, at least, I’m interested in

Would you bring a spare phone then? Sounds implausible. If you did, and it’s an emergency you can use a phone without a sim at all with the emergency network.

I want good PWAs. I don’t want borderline spyware-apps with access to all kinds of apis. There is no reason why a messaging app needs my gyro data, or gps, or all of the other stuff they just implicitly get because they are an app. I’m star

Ruff is great, but it lacks a lot of the rules[1]. As far as I understand it reads every file in parallel, if that is still the case there are categories of issues it cannot detect. In my case ruff cannot fully replace my existing tools, bu

This feature is possibly the main reason why I use FireFox in stead of any alternative. It is just so very nice to be able to log into multiple google accounts (in my case) at the same time.

How is it objectively "better"? This depends on context. I am sure Dart is worse given a specific condition. I'm not bashing dart, but you cannot say that "A is better than B" without any sort of context to the stat

Also not author of original comment, but I use it for “stupid data transforms” all the time. Like formatting some stuff for a spreadsheet. I find it faster than writing a script most of the time
