Luckily nowdays we have enough brave persons who just take whatever is postgres:latest image from Docker hub. Unluckily, chances they will report bugs not that high - at least I don't expect bugs related to any moderate size/loade

I do run some docker stuff in LXD/LXC VEs, especially for cases when there is no control and review on dockerfiles/compose files from infrastructure team, like some envs for dev teams.

Very good demonstration [for me] of current state Linux-Is-Ready-For-Desktop thing - even those with technical background, who _have_ idea on dev libraries (which I think really are headers with somelib-dev packages), strace/truss (i

WSL is a compatibility layer that you can use to develop Linux applications under Windows. JetBrains Fleet provides WSL integration out of the box. ========= Sibmitter's personal opinion: VSCode demonstrated great features and integrat

Indirect say of evaluation - history of core updates like DirectStorage and io_uring creation and adoption. It's nearly useless for slow/non-nvme drives, which gives us a hint that indilustry happily switched to NVMe for tasks whe

I'm curious why it makes you sad? I was very glad when they announced WSL2 and while still using WSL1 for running socat for port forwarding, not missing it lack of further development much. Could be I'm missing some productivity s

In addition to the amazing news of article itself, not less amazing for me is the fact of "active" discussion here on HN. The stunning amount of comments (2 comments in addition to mine) is good indicator on HN auditory, on how HN

Gmail monoculture? Sounds like wishful thinking for me. On premise and/or Outlook considered to be 0 by such statements. Any stats behind this?

How come? No jokes, even free tool like thunderbird has local cache, not even mentioning The Bat and Outlook. Cannot imagine.

Could be, will note on that. In practice I have it via bash alias `tma` , not long command as described. Until I can't bring my .bashrc to particular server of course - there long one, may try your suggestion though

not denying value of the article, it's great, but kinda solved problem for me - for multiple years, 99% of cases the first command after ssh login to server is `tmux attach || tmux` for me. Almost never run anything not in tmux/sc

That's easy - will happen the next day they realize that Docker solves totally different issue that Jails solve and [they] will start thinking on why saying it's superior is over Docker makes other [people] smile. That Jails vs Do

Not big fan of Freebsd myself, but what you say makes not much sense even for me. Some examples would be nice.

Even if it's technically doable doesn't mean [for me] it's not the same as supported/the same level of usability as before support dropped. Or see it other way around - will require more efforts as before. I see no value

May be it was not large. Say for one project DB server on Hetzner with 160GB RAM, 32cores/64theads,2x3.84TB NVMe + 2x512GB SSD costs ~ 240$, hosting mid-sized ~ 1.6TB MySQL DB. On managed RDS it was around ~ $2200/month when I che

Used bb4win (bbmean afair) till 2012 I guess, but then it was not developed and not coupled well with Win 7/8 probably, so I came back to Explorer. Nowadays on Win11 I'd probably won't need bb4win anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't X-Accel-Expires the same basically? From docs: Parameters of caching can also be set directly in the response header. This has higher priority than setting of caching time using the directive.
