   Italy now has the highest number of Covid-19 infections in the world, if you believe that China didn't underreport deaths. They claim an impossible death rate, given that their hospitals are still accepting almost all serious patients

   Unfortunately, this does not answer the question. In the case of overwhelmed hospitals, the ratio (deaths / serious cases) should be bounded from below by a constant close to 1. The number of serious cases is the only useful datapoint,
