Personally I'm pretty distrustful of documentaries. To be entertaining, they usually have to do some amount of narrative manipulation or propagandizing. There are many out there that open a small window into someone's life to make

Hexyl is what I love to use for quickly looking at a file. For slightly more serious introspection I use Emacs' hexl-mode, which also has basic editing capabilities.

I suppose that the Dunning Kruger effect is "well studied" in that there have been many attempts to study it, which so far cannot find reproducible results, and suggest that it isn't a real psychological phenomenon.

At a certain point, some "private company" must be so important that it becomes an essential service. Maybe Reddit isn't at that point yet, but that you're frustrated it's gone suggests that it is important. If an e

I doubt that matters. There were barely any women in my classes at a school with a mostly female student body. Now that I work in software, at a company which requires at least bachelor's degree, there are still very few women develope

I think 70%+ might not be the right proportion for all or most people in the US. It's hard for me to estimate, but irl conversations I've had mostly skew towards media, computers, and gossip. Gender dynamics is in there for sure,

I wonder if AVX-512 CPU throttling is a big problem for sorting algorithms based on those instructions.

I would consider that similar to a `inline constexpr` variable rather than a `constinit` variable. A `constinit` variable calls a constexpr constructor, but doesn't produce a constant. EDIT: Oh, I think I see how it's like `consti

Given the interoperability with C++ headers and templates, I'd expect that EVE or Highway should just work. I wonder if Cake macros could even express SPMD.

Zig does not have anything analogous to constinit, because Zig does not have object lifetimes or constructors. Comptime is also a massive pain to use for generating new data types (you have to return a type from a comptime function), and it

It's a LOT worse than C++ SIMD libraries. In C++ (EVE, Vc, Highway, xsimd, stdlib), you can specify the ABI of a vector, which allows you to make platform specific optimizations in multifunctions. Or you can write vector code of a lowe

You can call internal and external linkage C++ functions from Zig, but you can't do anything interesting like specialize templates or evaluate constexpr functions.

This lawyer does not read news, and he is not skeptical of overhyped technology. He might learn to be wary of AI now, but the underlying issue, this appalling lack of critical thinking skill, isn't likely to change.
