I had my fair share of being forced by higher management to commit insecure code, obfuscations and encryption security theater despite vehemently protesting. They seriously don't give a single shit. For them it's acceptable risk.

And once again we stumble on the Internet's weak point we could never fix -- the DNS. Google wanted to fix the problem and, despite their best intention, became evil in the process. Now instead of racing for a .com name, people are fig

This reminds me of the early 2000s when .Net was still in development and nobody knew exactly what it was because Microsoft would never admit it was just a better Java. When everybody was confused enough, they did the next logical thing, th

Yeah, a cop is like a body cam that can lie, has imperfect memory and if used in court can only testify against you. However, the problem with technology is the scale. You can't systematically collect everything a cop sees in a databas

I agree once you know about it is much easier to manage. When I get it, I definitely know what is going on and can now manage it most of the time. However, from time to time I just can't prevent myself from falling into a very bad trip

The article suggests the same mechanism is used for danger perception. When REM sleeping you enter a state of deep paranoia. If you are conscious at the same time (what we call sleep paralysis) the fear is almost unbearable and you start ha

A lot of research has actually been done on how humans and individuals perceive colors and tons of statistics exist. The results was the creation of many perceptual color spaces such as XYZ and CIE L a b that more closely match human percep

There is an inherent overhead to free speech and democracy. One could argue this is part of it. Spending billions to make a whole country stop working and cast a vote is another one. Should we take all those billions and put them in more pr

How would you do that? How can you prevent anyone from knowing you layoff 300 person until you contacted all 300 persons? They tried to contact him and failed. Should they wait until they reach him before contacting all other employees? Wha

I find the hardest thing for me related to ad blindness is finding the download link for a software. We get spammed with so many fake "DONWLOAD HERE!" buttons that it becomes impossible to see the real one.
