From my reading on Hacker News, I may be the only person in tech who enjoys living in San Francisco.

Docker containers are a breeze on heroku. The only issue is some wonkiness trying to ssh into the running container. Have yet to get it to work.

Yeah it's insane. I can't tell if the people who say it isn't bad just have good teams or are lying. The fact that there is a chance of crying at work based on your manager is absurd and washes away any good of working at tha

I've had this same though lately, that I was being seen as inattentive or disengaged by not disagreeing more with decisions I don't fully support. Maybe I'll try this out to see how that works. The issue though is when you do

Is that guy running the bot farm not afraid of legal action from Instagram? I'm not well versed but it seems like something they could go after him for. I wouldn't be spouting off about it to buzzfeed, that's for sure.

This was a major problem at my last company. There were days where meetings weren't an issue but the support channel we had to monitor was. Ugh

Any time I've heard of people I knew getting referred by old coworkers they still had to go through the complete interview process. Are you getting jobs through word of mouth alone with no technical interview? I haven't heard of t

After getting into some comp sci textbooks these last few months I definitely think these books are underrated for the information they provide and how they provide it.

It's hard for me to get into it. It seems that you basically just work your ass off for 20 years, live like a pauper, then you can retire once your (arguably) best years are gone. I'd rather just work and spend my money and experi

My last company made us stop writing integration tests because "they don't actually find any issues". We then switched to blackbox testing which seemed to basically only be integration tests anyways (at least within a single

This is pretty disgusting. The provincial government should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

That's a good point I didn't think about. Assuming you are most likely burning some midnight oil at a top tech company, you'd be stressed to keep up a social circle besides your coworkers. I think that plays a bigger part in

Take some time to work on stuff you find interesting? That's been the reason I've done it so far. If you are in the financial situation to do it I would recommend. Granted I work in a location where no one cares if you have a two

The two year salary metric is very strange in my opinion. I've quit jobs and taken time off without anywhere near two years of savings.

Yeah that struck me as a little strange. If you have a "top tier tech job" then I don't really understand the need for two years of savings. Do you think you won't find a job before two years? I guess it depends on locat

I don't go to Walmart because of how they treat their employees, the nonsense they pull with their vendors, and now this. The thing is that I'm not actually sure if any of the alternatives engage in this kind of practice as well.
