IPython has always been my favorite interactive UI, so if I had a ton of money to blow on tools, I'd love a more polished Cling (syntax highlighting, intelligent auto-completion, inline docs, emacs/vi keybindings) https:/&#x

Modern C++ can be very pythonic. Still not as easy as writing Java in IntelliJ but CLion is becoming quite good (if you succumb to CMake). People write shit code in every language; C++ has my favorite abstraction to performance ratio. http

I wonder if it uses Z3 under the hood for solving constraints. Very nice of MSFT to MIT license Z3. It's super useful for problems that result in circular dependencies when modeled in Excel, and require iterative solvers (e.g., goal

@brendangregg You mentioned FreeBSD; what are your thoughts on the state of DTrace on Linux vs FreeBSD? ps: I love your DTrace book! It's sitting on my desk now.

As an example, working in the payments business, we often model credit cards and bank accounts as different subclasses (or types) of a common superclass, given that these objects share a lot of semantics, i.e., they both send and receive pa

I use inheritance only if the model satisfies the Liskov Substitution Principle and if the language has strong OO primitives. Functional languages accomplish similar goals with different abstractions, e.g., type polymorphism, pattern matchi

I wonder if they migrated their infra over to facebook's, and if they're still running Erlang/OTP on FreeBSD boxes.

Wow, thank you! That is enlightening. It makes me think of a Nintendo (model) plugged into a TV (view) with a controller (controller) plugged into the Nintendo.

I love using DTrace for network monitoring. I wonder what's the simplest way to integrate it with pf to achieve a similar solution to Little Snitch, except with an htop-style interface :) http://www.brendangregg.com/DTr

I quite like using Erlang/OTP to host C++ nifs. I feel like it strikes that 10% of code being in C++ balance that you mentioned. I heard it's a popular combo for HFT applications. http://erlang.org/doc/tutoria

I'm sorry to dissect your quote, which is hall-of-fame-worthy, guess I'm just curious if it's always turtles all the way down, or if there is a "right" level of leak-proof abstraction. I imagine that every abstracti

I wonder what the sensor is made of. I would bet on there being a fair bit of Germanium in there. PS: probably wrong about that, silicon's band gap is more suited to optical spectrum, even though germanium has more electron mobility. I
