Yeah, that would do it. Actually though it's important to remember that 'dollars' and 'currency' are two related but very different things. :-) I'm gonna guess you already know that too. The Trillion Dollar Coi

I want you to think about, for a minute, the notion that you can have a number bigger than all of the atoms in the universe :-). From that, you can see that its possible to have more 'dollars' than there are atoms in the universe.

I understand this set of comments is a digression but there is an interesting subtlety here. There is a structural connection between economic activity (in particular 'innovation') and wealth inequality. Economies that are 's

I wonder if this one bends in your pocket[1]. I'd much rather have the 'iphone thicc' which can be 10mm thick if it fits easily in my hand :-) [1] https://qz.com/1288272/bendgate-was-real-apple-knew-the-i

And then we have Japan, which has spent 30+ years in the economic doldrums. What I'm saying is that these types of systems have "inertia" and can be exceptionally long lived in their 'bad' state, regardless of the p

Agree with most that this could have been way way worse. No doubt next time it will be. I keep expecting some new company to bring out this revolutionary idea of "On prem: your machine, your libraries, your business."

Yes, and ... restarting the fuel cycle under the current administration is, according to activity in the US uranium rich areas, kind of happening. I haven't seen anything "official" yet but driving around southern Utah shows

Ignoring the frequencies for a moment, because physics, the phone does 'wi-fi' calling just fine, a 40 'channel' (or 'room') push to talk (or VOX) voice app is pretty trivial. You get close just running the dis

Pretty neat. This would certainly make for an interesting Mars mission should SpaceX want to try it, land a lander, have the lander process regolith into iron chunks, create a pile of chunks. All good threshold goals. What ever happened the

There are really a lot of responses to this which explain it well. The summary though might be phrased as 'alignment'. Specifically, when everyone from the mainboard engineer to the product marketeer for the product have the same

I don’t know of any Co-lo types that did it, Microsoft had some creative ideas about things like that but I don’t know if they brought any to fruition. I suspect there are still opportunities there.

Back in 2022 I bought a 'case' of discarded NUC machines that some business had scrapped for $100 (it was like 35 computers in there) Roughly 1/3 had WiFi, none had storage (it had been removed before scrapping). Mix of CPU r

That would be neat. But sadly thermodynamics gets in the way. I did see a minipc where the graphics card was being cooled by a liquid cooler that had the cooler unit under the desk but its not really a "mini" pc at that point, its

Much of the Google use of liquid chillers was protected behind NDAs as part of its "hidden advantage" with respect to the rest of the world. It was the secret behind really low PUE numbers.

When our mainframe in 1978 sprung a leak in its water cooling jacket it took down the main east/west node on IBMs internal network at the time. :-). But that was definitely a different chilling mechanism than the types Google uses.

An observation. If we stipulate that this is true that a 'senior developer' benefits from Claude Code but a junior developer do not. Then I'm wondering if that creates this gap where you have a bunch of newly minted '10x
