My impression was that wikidata was the main answer to this problem by centralizing all the facts in a central database to avoid each page having its own data and sources, but I can see how there is much more than the data at stake.

Yeah same, the only "good" way I found was using the amazon synchrony store card, it displays the item name alongside the charges, which makes it doable to find the related orders for purchase categorization

This is just lowering themselves to the same level as every other CI tool. For sure YAML is an easier barrier to entry to overcome, but it's also a low ceiling. YAML doesn't let you transcribe logic easily compared to any programm
