The problem with Lambda School is the model and vision that suggests a general college education isn't worthwhile. That college should focus on a marketable skill directly leading to some job. That's optimal, but that leaves out t

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, every startup needs an experienced mentor. In the past, my business attorney (M&A guy in Chicago) helped me with all of my entrepreneurial endeavors. On the other hand, startups

I’d also note that ten years ago this would be actual news. People just don’t care because Windows 10 is stable and Microsoft is probably the least evil, most admired, corporation on the planet. “Still bitching about Microsoft 2003? Try the

I think Microsoft has every right to suggest their own browser. Chrome does it. Firefox does it. You have to opt out of the reminder. So you have to opt out of Start menu ads. Big deal. Can we focus on something slighty less trivial please?

If you have a corporate web app the connects to dozens of secure services, an opinionated framework specifically designed to manage that well is not “over engineered”. Conversely, if your web app has one api to call, you may find an opinion

I’ve always been annoyed with the fail fast model. The only group that benefits from fail fast are VCs looking for a big score. They push entrepreneurs to invalidate instead of teaching/helping them how to build a business. It’s all as

They should open source the Basic 7.1 compiler and push to make it cross-platform. It was procedural, but super fast. Also not interpreted. It compiled and linked, just like a C compiler.

A couple of takeaways: I’d love to see a XAML implementation for wasm, because it’s cleaner than html/css. Looking forward to .NET Core running in warm. I could see hackability actually improving since data and API access could be well

I refer to this a lot in my discussions about application architecture, but Domain-Driven Design is the core of my belief system. It's not a silver bullet as there are often times when it's unnecessary, but for any complex system,

This is exactly the wrong design pattern to follow. Translation from code to business model has always been problematic. Reducing that translation by modeling code after a business domain (not a business object) is the best way to reduce co

Reducing complexity starts with abstracting bound contexts, understanding relationships between them, identifying ubiquitous languages, understanding the autonomous bubble pattern, and then worrying about code. I’d add DAL should be shelved

I’ve been arguing relational databases are an operational anti-pattern for a few years. Your architecture shouldn’t start with an implementation choice. It should start with business modeling and drive down to tech choices, which may be one

You should decide on the type of data storage for a given domain and then decide on the patterns required to support that domain. The danger of using an ORM is that you can easily hide critical business functionality.
