Much of the speed increase (assuming fast and properly cached server) can come from the decreased need to repaint the entire DOM. For my site, this is a big deal.

They store lots of data into Watson's memory, including wikipedia, imdb, the bible. They run hundreds of algorithms attacking a question from different angles, and produce a confidence level for each answer.

Uh, Zynga has been mostly advertising for a long time. I don't know the ratio now but I would not be surprised if it's still the majority of their revenue. Advertising is also money you know.
