Somewhat, but multiplicative. Wifi requires a good deal more power to begin with, and the high power state of wifi is one of the biggest drains on battery life (after the screen).

Surely you don't mean do all those steps? That's an incredibly long process that I definitely wouldn't put up with. If I want to check out 10 companies, I simply can't scale with this unless I'm unemployed.

It is however very unlikely that he actually lost $12m in equipment. Most likely there was some damage done, but no where near that amount. If someone broke a $12m machine, surely their career would be over.
