I would say about 90% of the posts / articles / comments I see on the internet which discuss R are usually of the "meta" format. They talk about R's strengths or weaknesses, about the difference between R and Python

If you go through all this trouble, you have essentially added another business line to your company. This may or may not be where a company wants to spend their resources. Rolling your own XYZ will always be cheaper than paying a 3rd party

"Nobody saw me do it" and "I didn't do it" aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, if I don't do something, then by definition nobody saw me do it.

This line is actually used in one of the linked articles[1], "Argument in the alternative", which apparently does not constitute kettle logic. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_in_the_alternative

I would like to believe this is true, because it's where I want to be in 10 years. I would love nothing more than to sell my house in the city and build a custom house in the country, especially since you can get most luxuries these da

I'm not convinced by this[1]. It is true, if all municipalities suddenly let anyone build wherever they want, we would see prices fall. But that isn't the cause of the current price surge. The _cause_ is a surge in demand, not a r

I’m not sure what this means. Getting a mortgage and a car loan was easy, a car loan approval took no time at all. Does working at FAANG speed this process up somehow?

I've seriously considered removing some of the older semi-popular projects from my github solely because I would be embarrassed to show them to a prospective employer, or even other developers. In the end I think it's actually kin

In the US, you get what you pay for. Housing being as expensive as it is, basically all new builds are being built as cheaply as possible while builders cash in on the market. The fact that all inspections (at least in the areas I know of)

Interesting that the user has to think of specific letters to spell out a word. I guess the 26 distinct English letters are much easier to parse and separate than the untold thousands of words, especially when those words could be used in d

Reminds me of the sci-fi book Children of Time. It follows the cultural evolution of a species of intelligent spiders. When they're angry, they vibrate and shake the web a certain way. In larger meetings, the spiders all share a single

In my mind the is absolutely the right kind of data collection we should be encouraging. Do I want Tesla to sell my driving behavior to 3rd party vendors? No. Do I want them to plug it into an algorithm and give me an insurance (hopefully)

Everyone comparing this to minority report needs to calm down. Believe it or not, more accurate insurance premiums are a good thing.. if you are a good driver. And if there’s one thing that everyone agrees on, it’s that “I’m a good driver”.

I recently ran into this issue as well. Serialization of sklearn random forests results in absolutely massive files. I had to switch to lightgbm, which is 100x faster to load from a save file and about 20x smaller.

Basically all of my friends (myself included) met their significant other online. We just got married last weekend. When you look at the statistics, it clearly works for a very large portion of the population.
