I wrote myself a tool to monitor the RSS feeds of a bunch of web serials, and send any new chapters to Kindle. Using Calibre CLI, adapting to send EPUBs instead of MOBIs was as easy as changing from: ebook-convert chapter.html chapter.mobi

Wow, TIL — homemade CNC for under $500! The same project also covers homemade 3d printers. Are there any other projects similar to this, making normally-expensive pieces of equipment approachable for hobbyists?

Misleading title. In this study (in mice), a high-fat diet led to diabetes, and diabetes led to Alzheimer's. It doesn't state that a high-fat diet will lead to Alzheimer's in humans.

There isn't much scope for gluten-free beer drinkers in New Zealand... Two brands of beer, about 4 different choices. Gluten-free beer drinkers in other countries: what are some actually nice gluten-free beers?

Do you genuinely believe that dividing net wealth by total employees gives a meaningful figure? If Amazon employed me tomorrow, would their revenue immediately and automatically increase by $100k?

When the first deals started closing again, who would have won the deals? The company that stayed home for 12 months? or the company that continued working for 12 months? Imagine swimming hard against a strong current. You get nowhere (or m

Note that in part of the process, Copilot was the one asking complex questions when the human programmer didn't know how to proceed. Copilot adds tremendous value for someone who knows what they want, but not how to do it. For example,

You're aware that plants fill both those criteria: (a) capable of suffering, and (b) a preference to live? What do you eat?

Dogs and pigs can be trained. Cats can, to a certain degree. Cows? Not so much. I wouldn't rate them at the same level as cats, dogs and pigs (source: farming background).

Distinct personalities and intelligence are quite different things! Talk to a grower and they'll tell you that plants have personalities (this one doesn't like the shade, this one sulks after being repotted, etc).

Yes, exactly! The 90% can't live isolated forever because of the 0.2% who can't have vaccines for medical reasons. (The remainder is made up of those who've made anti-vaxx part of their identity). Put that money and resources

So you're against the lightning network because it can't be scaled infinitely? The overall system is just software, and it can be improved. L1 is capable of 4.6 transactions per second. L2 is capable of 25 million per second curre

No, a market maker makes (adds to) the market by placing orders. A market taker takes orders away from the market by completing transactions, thinning the order books.

From the biology perspective, monoclonal antibody production is hard, expensive and time-consuming. I don't think you'll see a rapid scale-up of these, as manufacturing at scale is so different to manufacturing in small batches. R

I agree with the sibling comments, I've never actually seen anyone go to the app store before Google/Amazon for simple purchases. When it comes to these companies selling apps though, it doesn't matter what the market thinks.
