Still surprised (and disappointed) how limited the styling options for native form fields are in CSS. Select fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, sliders and calendar inputs should be just as easily stylable as plain old text boxes and button

Depends exactly what you need. If the site only needs to provide a bit of info about the business plus a contact form, then just about any CMS or site builder would be perfect here. WordPress could do this, SquareSpace or Wix could do this,

This is basically why relying on centralised services is a bad idea. Because at the end of the day, they need to make money. They need to pay the increasingly high bills. They can be bought by billionaires, corporations, governments and oth

Well the full title is technically "Why would anyone use another centralised social media service after this?", but I don't think that'll fit in the title box here.

They have. Hive, Post News, Cohost, etc. But most people don't care about whether a system is centralised or decentralised, so Mastodon seems to be doing best stats wise.

The war in Ukraine ends. Not sure who 'wins', but it feels like resources are low enough on the Russian side that an end to the conflict will be a priority. Putin might not make it through 2023. If he keeps pushing for the war and

Yeah they attend the standup. No they don't tend to tell me not to do something, they just say what they're working on and talk to everyone about their current projects too.

I'll upvote a story after reading it if it's interesting and I think that it provides value to the community. Or I guess after reading the first post if it's on Show HN or Ask HN. Meanwhile for comments, I'll upvote them

Sorry if this sounds naive, but... do people still use jQuery for new projects? I was genuinely surprised to see it was getting releases anymore, given how much of its functionality can be done with native JavaScript now.

I don't understand the appeal of the 'metaverse' either. From what I can tell it's basically just some sort of MMO environment where you can do real life things in VR? That seems rather pointless to me, especially given
