The link you have is also old - most of the issues reported there are not valid anymore with C++11. BTW, at least for Windows 8 now Microsoft recommends you to start new projects in JavaScript or C++ (in this order).

Can be an issue. AOL deidentifed search data still allowed some people to be identified. When name is tied to some medical condition related search terms, it gets embarrassing...

That's the "None of the above" part. All of these are just tools to help you get it right. Even with plain JavaScript you will need tools. jshint for example is awesome.

It's a matter of taste. If you like Ruby, check out CoffeeScript. If you don't now there's Google Dart. The IDE is pretty nice. None of the above? Closure Compiler, jshint etc. are your friends. Edit: a good article about "verbal vs visual"
