Special instructions won't help latency. There are prefetch instructions that basically just do loads. Each load in x64 (at least on Intel) grabs 128 bytes (two cache lines) from memory to cache minimum. The Cell from Sony did have ex

It _could_ have that effect, but it would depend on signed integers wrapping.

The whole thing sold for the price of tiny ranch house in a bad neighborhood, the fact that anyone is putting effort into it is positive.

They probably heat it selectively and still pay a lot in utilities. One of the photos of stairs looks like it has a fairly small HVAC so there are likely multiple systems for the whole building.

The article also casually mentions the building being haunted, so I'm not sure if expecting superb journalism here is reasonable.

School in the US is already funded by the people in the immediate area, meaning that poor families have worse schools. Also wealthy families wouldn't need student loans anyway.

I try to worry much more about what works rather than labels. If you stuff all your functionality and data transformations into class definitions, your class definitions will be full of dependencies. Now all the fundamental elements of you

One big way I prevent this from happening is to treat classes as interfaces to data structures and keep everything that isn't about accessing the data elsewhere. Conversions to other data types go somewhere else. In fact I don't

Right now it's actually only about a third of the normal price. It looks like John Carmack knew it was a gamble and wanted to write software to find out what the trick actually was.

Before GPS was printing off maps from google and before that were map books that you buy at gas stations. Navigating through a big city to somewhere tricky by yourself was no joke. It was a lot of memorization ahead of time and intense co

My point is that the article is worse than just having a link to the paper. It just says it might lead to cures for diseases, better self driving cars and lots of other abstract sensational nonsense. It could be used as a template and any

This article is all over the place with almost no substance. It starts talking about Einstein's theory of relativity, it says this definitively solves curved data and gives almost no insight into what is actually different. It is so b

This isn't a metaphor. Zig has gone to more effort to make itself break for windows users than it would have taken to make it work and not cause problems. Zig says it wants to replace C and it puts out builds that purposely break by d
