Yes, that's a huge number. That's why I split it up the way I did ( https://github.com/mintern-java/functions#sensible-packaging ). If you don't care about `short`, that cuts out nearly 6,000 of the classe

Our company has been slowly converting a medium-sized (~100K LOC) Java codebase to take advantage of some Java 8 features. One example is a utility method that accepts a String DB query and then executes a Consumer<ResultSet> for each

I agree wholeheartedly with your first sentence, but I still find lambdas to be quite useful in spite of their limitations.

Good IDE support is the difference between constantly hunting through (or thoroughly memorizing) documentation and having a program help you with it. It's also great for merging the edit and compile steps so that you can correct errors

That's not arithmetic, though. That's logic represented as a one-liner... Not the sort of change I'm talking about.

I disagree that FP and OOP are the only abstraction methods. Arithmetic can be an excellent abstraction method. For me, it's a code smell to have a function called "updateScore4". It's often possible to come up with an a

That's definitely a good point. My comment was a kneejerk reaction to assertions like "Hacker News is a cesspool." I agree that we should address anything that makes people feel unwelcome or uncomfortable because of who they

Why would you consider Z85 to be a better choice? When you take URI encoding into account, Base64 is both simpler (no need for %-encoding)[0] and more space efficient (1.75 URI characters per byte for Z85, and 1.33 for Base64)[1]. The very
