Yes!! Great idea.. Keep ignoring them. So they feel more encouraged to do more fishy things. That attitude made todays internet pretty much swamp.

If my backend home server dies. I will rebuild it from spare parts right away. If one of frontend servers dies, nothing really happened. Ill spawn new one somewhere else (VPS, cheap dedibox, whatever).

Oh I really like those comments. People think that keeping autoupgrades on without control keeps them secure. Right... And then you keep hearing stories about server wont go up because of update, or stuff breaks horribly. Not to mention bri

The point is, that if you want it to happen, you can do it with just minor effort.

It works because well, its actually pretty primitive at its core. Whole learning process is actually pretty brutal. Doing millions of interations w/ random (and semi-random) adjustments.

Well, it depends on model how you manage servers. Cattle vs Pets. And of course true for takeover, thats nightmare whatever it have uptime or not ;) I have just several servers here and there so their are all pets to me. Im 99% sure, server

Distributed systems are cool, but people I think got carried away with complexity. Hardest part here is active-active replication, but this is needed for very few who need true 100% availability and big scaling. For majority of people activ

You want adhoc HTTP server or daemon? I wrote my adhoc HTTP server for serving files from my desktop right away. If interested, leave comment, I can make it public.

And why the hell you need it for? Plain ASCII is best. Different people use different fonts to read stuff because of reasons. Enforcing that is actually rude.

Thats it. The future is darknets really. Just use Internet as transport layer. The more networks the better.

I have HDDs (spining rust) in my desktop that are 10+ years and still running fine. I had older SCSI UW-320 disks that were running 20+ years until well, started to give I/O errors. Workloads are low here (mostly read). So I imagine it

Ahh, Graphs.. One of my favorite subject. I love doing graphs but im kinda bad at implementation. But, I still managed to slap D3 + Cola to make my own little interactive visualizer I use for various networking visualizations (L1,L2,L3). He

The problem with all the new stuff (OS, Apps etc) is that you are no longer own them. They are lend to you, and so, it can be easly rendered unusuable by companies by simply pushing special update. I hate auto updated with passion. It all l

Welcome to the revolution where huge oversubscribing is the norm. Everyone sells 100Mbit, 300Mbit, 1GE internet or even more.. Poeple often start to talk about 10GE CPEs.. bigger faster.. its partially consumers fault but meh. I would many

Hehe, yeah ;) I ended up disassembling it, then looking at disasm + source code I removed dynamic shadows in DX8 renderer (I have weak GFX card, and in DX8 shadows look not good anyway) and patched the binary :)

Dunno, but for example I tried to compile Stalker SoC and it was very messy adventure. It took me whole day to build it (deps problems, compile errors) and it was such an disappointment because game just crashed. Maybe I will try again one

Yeah, thats great in retro systems. If you gather the tools, you can rebuild them. I recently recompiled good old Uplink game for fun. All I needed is Visual Studio 6.0. The devel archive contained all necessary deps to build game. It was a

Riiight, Now I checked Keychron webpage and C1 keyboards are gone. These were nice and simpler version with north-faced backlight and shine through keycaps. Now they have C1 pro, with south-faced backlight and non-shine trough keycaps. WTH?

Yeah, it is. I own two good old APC SmartUPS 1000 (one for desktop and second for server). They are absolutly reliable, quiet and output Sine when on battery. Good old reliable tech, easly monitored using apcupsd for example.

Yeah, our world started to move way too fast. In the past, new tech usually came slower so new generation could get hands on it, learn and then use it for life time. Now, you start learning on thing and sometimes even in the middle, you are
