This is great, when I first started in trading in 2006 one of the traders actually used a Gravis gamepad to do click trading. I even remember conversations between devs debating about the latency of the human eye in order to make screen ref

Reminds me a bit of the -a flag for snoop on Solaris in where you can listen for packets on /dev/audio. I wonder if that ever made it into tcpdump.

It makes we wonder if they have to do it that way, after what happened with VW lying about their diesel emissions.

It’s pretty trivial to do this, any big fiber company will provide you with Google Earth KMZ files (protected by NDA) when considering a purchase. This is absolutely necessary when designing a redundant network or if you want lower latency

I miss all the old personal websites on Geocities, Tripod, etc and using web rings to discover them. Also learning how to write a website in HTML with notepad and learning how FTP works, and working around your free quota. My computer art

I don't think your dad was wrong here, viruses/malware/adware were rampant on filesharing platforms. Back in those days I downloaded tons of cracks/trainers/etc and got pwned all the time. It made me really good a

Solaris 10 worked pretty good on x86 and was free back then. Once Oracle acquired Sun, they eventually started to demand $1K per year per CPU core on hardware that wasn't made by Sun/Oracle.

I once ran into an issue on a GNU Mailman host putting out an email storm and the load average was > 800 on an x86 Solaris box that probably only had 4x AMD cores. I was eventually able to get in as root on the serial console and fix it

I think it was bad timing. We might have been able to migrate to IPv6 wholesale when the Internet was much smaller in the early 90s. One thing that comes to mind is the kumbaya moment when everyone got together to switch from BGP v3 to BG
