After two screen-scrolls I was not comfortable that the author could have obtained consent for all of the captures. Did they? I don't think this is appropriate for HN honestly, it's probably not legal in most jurisdictions. Viewin

My point about the Spanish flu was that this is a complex comparison. Statistically it's similar so far. But with very different social parameters (massively increased global travel, vastly better understanding of epidemiology). We are

That's a pretty cavalier attitude even if we take your assumptions to be true. If it's a virulent flu, the last time we had a pandemic with comparable stats was 1918, when we had much less global travel but much worse medical infr

In the context of a thread about the precision of quantitative language, I feel obligated to raise an eyebrow (and type a comment about the raising of said eyebrow) at your use of "astronomical".

I don't think it's strange. I often prefer to work or study in the car compared to using busy (library) or expensive (cafe/coworking space) alternatives. Home is reserved for relaxation and family, and I learned when I used t

We really don't all want to get rich. Some of us just want to solve problems, help people, or alleviate suffering. Some people want to achieve that by getting rich first (not me). A large proportion of even those who want to get rich f

I have many examples in mind. Here's an old article with good examples: https://cacm.acm.org/magazines/2010/6/92482-a-tour-through-t... In general I'd say that for any dataset, the ideal visualisati

If you present an example of high-dimensional data I'd be happy to help you reason about how to visualise it (although this is perhaps better suited to StackExchange). edit: if you feel you need 3D, you've already failed to repres

I can't see anything in the tutorials or examples that makes this a good library for visualisation of high-dimensional data. It seems somewhat equivalent to base graphics in R, which is much less useful for visualising high-dimension

Good visualisation of high dimensional data is almost all about the mental model and mapping of dimensions, barely ever about the library. ggplot2 is excellent for displaying high dimensional data in R if you can reason well about your own

Indeed, all the examples appear to be showing datasets that would benefit from good data visualisation and in some cases dimension reduction, but all of them are terribly represented. I don't think this necessarily a problem with the l
