I've had a weird thought that it might be that consciousness is the result of a quantum field that collapses to instantiate a consciousness when enough feedback mechanisms are present to allow for its function. Of course, this is likel

This was before HTML5 and before the browser magically handled a lot of this… so there was definitely a bit more to it. Every company also wanted to have statistics of where people scrub to and all of that. It wasn’t super simple, but yeah,

Just to be honest for a bit here... we also should be asking what kind of scale? Quite a while ago, before containers were a thing at all, I did systems for some very large porn companies. They were doing streaming video at scale before mos

I haven’t found one showing what Chris showed. Most seem to focus on just communications with little demonstration of productivity or other features. This is sad to me because its most glorious asset was being open source with a rich set of

Did an install of OS/2 3.0 recently, and it was just as wonderful as the first time I used it. That team got so much so right.

This comet is so weird. I really wish we’d had some kind of lander ready to go when it came in. I feel like this could dramatically have improved our understanding of comet/asteroid composition.

This is mostly true, but the cost of maintenance, fuel, and repair doesn't offset the cost insurance, electricity, and battery replacement for me over the course of 10 years, so my next vehicle will still be a petrol engine car unless

The price will go up as the availability goes down. If you have a shortage of mechanics, each mechanic can raise his/her labor price. So, while you're saying "we can't get <profession> for cheap" this implies

There should be some kind of requirement to prominently state that a purchase does not imply ownership of any kind, right on the "box." The entire thing is quite deceptive. I am not singling out Microsoft here. Apple's AppSto

LadyBird grew out of the SerenityOS project which was originally written in C++ (they've since moved to Jakt). All software for Serenity had to be written natively for the OS, and C++ was the language originally supported there. Andrea

I question this narrative. While social media is certainly having a negative impact, most democratic societies have relatively short life spans historically speaking. There’s also a tendency for economies to falter, for irrationality to inc

I think the main reason is that places like Twitter provided real-time images of things happening around the world. All it takes is one influencer looking at a photo and talking about it for people to see that reporting is heavily biased. T

I’ve hated “smart phones” since the dawn of the iPhone. I rather enjoyed the Palm Pilot and thus the Treo which married a Pilot with a cellular phone, but for me, that was the limit. I would sync it with my Performa, just as I had done with
