The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkings. ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Selfish_Gene ) The idea that organisms evolved to be survival vehicles for our genes totally inverted and simplified my view of life. It gave me a

Your government (I'm assuming you live in the USA || Canada) supports "Houses of Worship" through tax exemptions. I'd feel like I was finally getting some value out of a church if a conference was held there. edit: Added Canada; we do the s

I wish I didn't give a shit about this whole situation. It really doesn't affect me in anyway. However, when I do think about it, this is what comes to mind: 1. John and Dan started the podcast together 2. John came up with the name 3. Some

I worked with a guy that complained to me one day about taking his car to a full-service hand car wash. They did a crappy job. I asked if complained and he said it was no use, he just wasn't going to go there again...this pisses me off to n

Nice idea. I'd be interested to know (and if you're willing to share with the community): 1. What was your job. 2. How much did you get paid. 3. How much savings(runway) do you have to support this product. Thanks!

I think this "open letter" is a little disingenuous. A nice heartwarming letter of thanks by a poster that signed up to HN 4 days ago. Maybe I'm cynical, but this seems like astro-turfing.

The most important feature (for me) that any music library is missing is podcast support. Just a thought.

Crass and insensitive but in line with everything I've ever heard him profess to believe. He's never strayed from his goal in making great software available to millions of people around the world, and he's never given a shit why it shouldn

I could see this argument if an article was titled "Client side scripting (JavaScript) is Dead. Long live client side scripting (Ruby)" ...assuming one of the browsers yanked JavaScript in favor of Ruby.
