Can you clarify? I've always thought of engineers as people who solve problems by applying scientific knowledge. These guys seem to fit the bill, but I'm not an engineer (by any definition) so I don't know the terms first-hand.

Some of those commenters look pretty well-qualified. For example, Terence Tao was awarded both the Fields medal and the MacArthur Fellowship.

I think your objection is less about the type of person and more about the use case. Representative maps are best for showing relationships and directions. That's why public transportation maps (subways esp.) are drawn to show how various

I agree with mmelin. Maybe it could be more fun if it was a petition you 'sign' by re-tweeting, or a 'meeting manifesto'. Or at least something more provocative like, I won't tolerate poorly run meetings or the people who perpetrate them

Might be over-analysis. Perhaps google just heard that people like pictures on the bing page, so they tried to push it on google for a day, both to see what happens and increase igoogle. i was surprised how fired up people got.

Also a way of sticking it to web publishers who collect roughly 70% of the money from google-placed ads and 100% of direct ads

Congrats! Overall, this list had some great ideas. It's refreshing to see a whole crew that aren't being discussed in the typical Silicon Valley blogs. I thought sparefoot.com was especially cool.

Tell people you care about that you are starting a project. Keep them up to date on your progress. Your friends and your ego can be powerful motivators to finish.

The best startup office tip I have heard is buying sheets of 'Solid White Tileboard' from home depot. It is a material used in commercial shower installations that works well as a white board. 8x12 sheet is ~14 dollars.

I know the big story here is cross platform support, but I also LOVE the idea of being able to see common friends as a way to break the ice.
