Note: this is my perspective, one as a software engineer who has mostly worked at startups and now currently at a FAANG Pros: - Often easier to make lots of impact/move up quicker - (Potentially) less bureaucracy around decisions - (Po

The US military is efficient at what it does, generally speaking - it is the product of a can't fail fighting force, and all the implications that come out of that. As an enlisted infantry Marine who transitioned very easily into softw

Agreed - I grew up near NYC, and now live in the Bay Area. IMO, the quality of life is much better in the Bay Area, although I don't like the fake niceness you see around sometimes. Around NYC I have to be a lot more vigilant for peopl

I'm skeptical of this for larger companies/companies that aspire to get larger - time and time again, the more you outsource, the more you're tethered to those services, especially if you need to scale. This will cost compani

The last thing I want when I browse news is for video to be incorporated. It's already bad enough seeing video only articles on Google News on occasion. This will probably push me to switching to Apple News for mobile.

I think this article misses the important point - you should be able to trust the coworker’s expertise. Present the facts, but leave the decision about the person’s domain to that person.

For me, weather is a big issue - I’ve spent 4 years in Champaign-Urbana in Illinois, and I got sick of winter the first year I was there (two weeks where the high was -15 F, and the low was even lower than -30 F). If the weather were better

Depends I think - big companies are vastly more efficient than small companies at certain things. To give a personal example from a FAANG, where I work at, web developers don't have to worry much about a lot of the ops infrastructure -
