Tokyo feels more retro futuristic than modern futuristic. Aside from the Shinkansen, a lot of the tech and software you interact with there feels antiquated and even borderline terrible. Meanwhile in SF there are self driving cars everywher

Kind of defeats the purpose of colocation if you're not also running the database on your own server.

Sounds great. Yep, what I mean is you will need to make your systems fully redundant before considering cloud if your business depends on reliability and uptime. That usually requires the business to reach a certain scale first.

Yep I use orchestration (Nomad) but still you would need hardware redundancy. For example, the database server is currently a single point of failure. In the cloud, if there's a hardware failure, it will simply go down and come back up

Cloud is expensive but hardware failures are at least handled gracefully. With coloc you'd have some serious downtime. That means you'd need to get to a certain level of redundancy in order to have coloc make sense. I'd love

It's not zero in return, why would Ukraine agree to that? Where is your source that it was zero in return? > and we're not talking stacks of cash here but rather the "value" of military hardware, much of which already

To further expand on that, Europe gave aid to Ukraine as a form of a loan with the interest being paid back based off of Russian frozen assets.

Any thoughts on Inertia.js, which seems like a good solution for React + Rails? Feels like you can have your cake and eat it too. https://github.com/inertiajs/inertia-rails

Redundancy only develops after failures. Only after that 5th PagerDuty alert do we start to add more of it. The fires in LA were a failure and more redundancy will soon follow like improved building codes, better forest management, etc.

Technically, but nothing miles away caught on fire. The ignition zone is likely only a few hundred yards even in intense Santa Ana winds. So that means only homes in fire prone areas (or adjacent) would need to be made very defensible.

It is mainly cost – like 6x more. Utilities like LADWP eventually want to underground everything but the time scale of such a project is probably eons.

The fire quickly grew into a firestorm due to the 50 mph+ winds. Southern California is known for this phenomenon of dry winds that blow from the desert called the Santa Anas. They only affect certain areas, so the perfect combination of th
