The Linux world would benefit strongly from having a much bigger commitment to backwards compatibility in foundational libraries. Obviously there is nobody who can force e.g. OpenSSL to keep supporting old versions or to provide them as wra

Your documents should go in ~/Documents, not directly in ~. Also XDG is is specifically for X11 applications. I don't see why ones without a GUI should respect it at all.

Yes it should. Property is property. It is insane that some property somehow becomes unownable after an arbitrary length of time. If I own land, that land will go to my heirs or, if none exist, on auction. Then someone else will own it. It

Threads is a mobile-only app, like Instagram. You can't actually use Threads on a desktop browser, so that's probably why this is shared as a Twitter post. Even if it were a Threads post, it would not be submittable to HN.

If you're using a DCI-P3 (wide-gamut HDR) display, then #0000ff (or #aaaaff) in that display's colour space will be emitted as more saturated blue light than what an sRGB display is capable of. I am not sure if you will perceive t

The biggest lesson for me is that you need to provide an incremental path to using the new features. The reason C++ succeeded as much as it did is because you can incrementally C++-ify your existing C code. You can provide C interfaces to y
