I think you are wrong in a funny way. Memory safety and memory leaks and stuff dont always matter. This sparked and interesting memory for me. I was once working with a customer who was producing on-board software for a missile. In my analy

You have all that in C++ too. Exceptions are near zero cost and used everywhere, sometimes even in embedded stuff too.

i dont think it matters, if you have any exception in the critical boot part, you will end up with this. Rust cannot fix this. Microkernels might.

unhandled null in rust will still cause panic. still cause the bootloop.

I mean the issue would still happen even if they switched to rust.

There are more criticisms of rust and c++ but sure.

adding to this, People that say cargo check is the answer dont even understand the problem at hand. Just because the language is compiled does not mean it needs to take 30 business days to compile something. You can have fast compile times

cargo check will take long once you use macros. And now the advice changes to "well you shouldnt use that many macros", and a new criticism will be made, followed by "well you shouldnt....." and a new... I dont think t

Anything C++ 17 and above is golden. I personally use a few things from C++20/23 and rely a lot on carefully reading and trying to understand https://en.cppreference.com/w/ when it comes to anything I might not be

C++ is extensively used in HPC and in the lower level aspects of machine learning. I dont know what you are trying to make so I cannot make a recommendation. C++ has a lot of pain points that are being either tackled by the committee or the

having near instantaneous builds is easy to achieve in C++ [depending upon projects, this will not happen for llvm] to the point that even REPLs for C++ exist that are used for large scale physics data analysis at CERN.

But you can implement the same algorithm in c++, you can even implement it in assembly, or brainfuck! I do not care about c++ or rust or any of the language wars stuff. All I wanted to do was point out that the initial statement about disr

Performance is overrated? What? I'm sorry but not all people are rich enough to own multiple threadrippers. Performance is a skill, probably one of the most important skills. Rust is a darn language, not a skill. You can have performa

Majority of the high quality libraries are written in either C++ or a mix of C/C++. Leaving all that behind for a new language is a hard decision to make. Especially when they specifically left SerenityOS to focus on actually being a b

Yeah, unfortunately the world is super into c and c++ tot he point that billions have been spent on making it safe via frama-c, astree and friends rather than in funding an actual safe language.

Because he wants to. C++ is used because 90% of all safety critical software is written in c++.
