I look forward to new great firsts like this one. 15+ years ago TV and Movies were major status differences. Actors/Directors wouldn't besmirch themselves working on tv. It's been interesting seeing this flipflop. Netflix cou

Netflix doesn't have to own the content so much as protect against being too reliant on a single provider. The more diverse content production, the more powerful the monopolistic distributor. However, the lead they have now they have e

Yeah that was my impression as well. He's been travelling the same Jordan Peterson/Sam Harris circuit I have. I could probably list the reasons but just his use of Big Five personality traits makes it highly likely. I think to som

The sucking pressure is actually created by the lungs (or diaphragm) not the teeth. It's not clear which specialty is taught that.

I'll tell you what the new smoking is. Driving around in a gas car. Hey Ford, cough cough, I'm trying to breathe here.

No. It's not the new smoking. There's an uncomfortable process involved with acculturating to social media and it will continue to evolve, but there is far more upside when used well which is hard to say with smoking.

That's gotta be some kind of pick and choose fallacy (availability bias?). Those two happen to be high-status individuals from old high-status science disciplines so they tend to get whatever they say amplified. I wouldn't use thi

To me, Elon is playing catch-up and thrown his hat in the Yudkowsky club although Bostrom and other more credentialled people were probably his vector into it. They were talking about this stuff 10-20 years ago. I haven't yet seen anyt

I was mostly rebuffing the structure of the argument "While in theory we can build safe reactors, practice shows otherwise" which has two different reference classes for reactors (modern safer ones, and less safe fukushima ones).

We've certainly shown that reactors designed in the 60s and built in the 70s are problematic in very rare cases.
