In my experience, if you make someone two offers, they'll generally stop to consider which one is best for them.

It's oddly different. I think the reasons are subtle, but exist. I know one technical difference: if someone quote-tweets to dunk on you, you can stop it. There must be more like that, because the effect is readily noticeable.

JFYI that NZ graph looks like Denmark at the time: Slow groth, then high EV sales in the final few months of the subsidy, when people know the subsidies were to be discontinued, then very low sales in the first months after the end of the s

Could you elaborate on the plummeting? I remember that that happened in Denmark, but when I googled now, it seems EV sales started growing again almost at once and are now at about 57% of the market. Do you know some countries where EV sale

Sometimes. In some cases. An airline incurs a giant cost at the moment it decides to fly a route, everything after that is almost pure income, with little or no associated cost. Consider Cuba Airlines, which I invented right now because Cub

I've heard that too. But I've also heard that it wasn't immeasurable and wasn't a large share of their income.

I think you can put it differently: Twitter has changed, the Guardian's target market remains the same. By by now there are so few educated middleclass people on Twitter that as a channel to that market, it's "simply not wort

I agree that the popular vote is a key metric, extremely important, perhaps even more than maintaining a close relationship between those elected and the voters, which is often the goal of the balancing rules. As for an example, look at Ger

One of my children is affected by a similar change. The number of foreign students grew to such a number that the admission threshold for locals exceeded the best possible grade (ie. my child would need perfect grades plus bonus points). Wh

Personally, I only know about one democracy where the popular vote is used to determine the outcome of elections. The others I know all use something moderately different. My home, for example, has two kinds of weighing, one for regional ba

No. Let's prosecute the bad actors and be done. I noticed the cock.li home page doesn't explain which users are targeted by what it calls crimes, or what these crimes are.

AIUI low-cost flights work best in an area where there's a lot of sizable city pairs about 1h-3h away from each other. Europe has more such pairs than the US, as indicated by the much higher population density.

A bad estimate is always somehow bad. The US is in the news now. It has something like five million illegal immigrants that work for next to nothing. Losing that source of cheap labour would be a wrenching change.
