That's definitely not true in France. Unions and CSEs try to give some transparency on salaries for a given position in a given company, but even then, it's not like knowing the salary of everyone.

Ok, so Fira Code won hands down for me and I decided to compare it to the font I'm using today (DejaVu Sans Mono) before switching… And I actually like DejaVu Sans Mono better (among other things because it doesn't do ligatures th

In this very specific case because the author, Matt Mahoney, is one of the most respected experts in the field of lossless data compression. But yeah, in some case the difference is hard to tell.

Well, yes; you don't get much to update with Debian, whereas using Arch, for example, you have many updates, very often. Sometimes having many updates is what you want (therefore use Arch) sometimes it's not (therefore use Debian)

That's pretty much the same for the desktop, except you are maybe more often in need of some non-free driver that you have to keep available at hand (eg. on another USB stick) for when the installer asks for it. I find it simpler to do

WRT 2., I had never paid attention to that, but it makes sense as borg is written in Python. That's probably not an issue for many personal use cases where backups are going to be I/O bound anyway, but I guess it's a signific

The helpfulness of the ArchWiki for people who don't use Arch can't be stated enough. As a user of several distros, this is my go-to documentation regardless of which distro I'm working with.

Well, maybe. Didn't know that back then. I also used the default shell I was provided with (tcsh), if it helps understanding how lost I was. In retrospect, I'm probably a happier coder now because of that.

EDF, the largest electricity provider in Europe does the same in France. Actually, it even manages to do a bit worse: 1FA using SMS or email, but choice is left to the potential attacker. I've spent countless hours trying to explain th
