again, which app are you talking about? it's like saying "the web is buggy" but not saying what browser you're using. Looking at the App Store reviews for Element X at https://apps.apple.com/us/app&#

which app are you talking about? as per the conference keynote, there are loads of different ones now, written in different stacks without any overlapping implementations. If you're talking about the old Element Classic mobile app, the

Mjolnir is designed to apply decentralised public blocklists - i.e. you pick which banlists to apply; there are a bunch published by different people (matrix.org, the matrix 'community moderation effort', etc). Admittedly moder

nope, Matrix has zero code or philosophy in common with Amdocs UC (which was proprietary, centralised, unencrypted XMPP + SIP held together with HTTP). Instead, after we gave up on trying to persuade telcos to roll out OTT messaging apps b

you may be mixing up Amdocs UC (which i ran) which was explicitly OTT-messaging-for-telcos… with Matrix, which is what the UC team did next. The point of Matrix is/was to replace the PSTN with a decentralised alt on the internet - so

I’m obviously biased (as proj lead for Matrix) but I genuinely think Matrix is in a good place going forwards. There’s a lot of legitimate complaints about the transition to Matrix 2.0, and trust & safety still needs a tonne of work - b

At high level, and off the top of my head: “Signal Protocol” is a somewhat fuzzy description of whatever Signal does at a given point in time. Historically, this meant Double Ratchet, which is O(N) with the number of devices in a conversati

user-user authn is indeed orthogonal to client-server authz. For authenticating your own devices in EX, you are forced to verify them at login. If you have other devices flying around that aren’t verified then you have to use a different ap

I suspect we'll end up bundling MAS inside Synapse for situations like this - trying to limp along on the legacy auth stack when stuff like 2FA/MFA/QR-login etc are all handled by MAS/OIDC will be painful.

Matrix is the protocol, so doesn’t do implementations (just like w3c doesn’t do web servers any more). But the distribution from Element indeed is self-host first, and doesn’t break stuff if you’re airgapped. The paywall (such as it is) is
