trivial doesn't mean the AI will get it right. A trivial request can be to move an elephant into a fridge. Simple concept right? Except AI will probably destroy both the elephant and the fridge and order 20 more fridge of all sizes and

I've met with enough people that think like this (note: not just on AI) that I honestly can't tell if it's sarcasm anymore.

Is it though? Most code that LLM emits are easier to understand than equivalent code by humans in my experience, helped by overt amount of comment added at every single step. That's not to say the output is correct, there are usually b

That part didn't change with or without LLMs though. At least LLM is one more set of eye on my own decisions.

You're assuming only the last part is what software engineer do. The business analyst mostly just scratch the top half of the first part. But I do encourage them to go vibe coding! It's providing a lot of entertainment. On off cha

If I owe you $100 by contract, I can't just pay you with 1 ton of steel slab delivered to your garage and argue that this is worth more and therefore you should write the debt off.

As a chronic unix terminal dweller, I wrote tascli to help me manage and record tasks and records. I've looked at some of the existing offerings like "taskwarrior", and they are either slightly too feature rich, or did not su

There's always a cost even if there doesn't seem to be one, credibility is measurable in markets and when it bite I think we'll all be in rough times.

It's the human aspect of engineering, you can't join 15 different tables just by running an 200 line SQL command in nosql and this manual burden forces a re-thinking in what the acceptable design is. relational DB is great, but ju

That does sound like an engineering problem more than anything. On an off note, migrating to nosql might not have a lot of on paper benefit, but it does enforce developers to design their table and queries in a way that prevents this kind o

That still works today, LLM tend to almost always hallucinate when you ask it for source details despite it being trained on it. Especially if the behavior is strange enough that trigger the look into the source.

Is 50% that bad? If instead you hire engineer to maintain access to some kind of file storage on the internet, would it cost more or less? Would be alarming if it is 500% the staff salary, but at 50% that just seems the cost of outsourcing

Just like Google or Stackoverflow. There was a time when I felt my greatest programming ability is googling, I think that transferred well to LLMs since googling and asking question on stackoverflow required a very similar skill set.

I use LLM in my workflow a lot, however it never occurred to me there's any vibe until this online running joke. And no, the vibe is largely the same as before, there was google, then stackoverflow, and then now here's an AI that

That's the bingo card. The economy runs on expectations. I've been thinking about the recent layoffs impacting government. If 1% of the workforce is laid off at once for no good reason, are the impact restricted to 1% of economy?
