Thanks, I think the scarcity is due to a lot of companies deploying Node in their stack as a microservice on lambda rather than using it for their entire backend. Its understandable.

I used to develop Perl at the start of my career, now there is no market for it. In my opinion, that makes stack important. I appreciate what you're saying about fundamentals, but its not applicable to me.

I forgot to mention my background is computer science and I wrote Ruby, Perl and Java for the first 3 years of my career before focusing on JS during the last 5. Thanks for your input, I'm leaning towards Rust or Go; hoping to get some

Agreed, learned this over the past couple years while in management. Its usually a process issue or something related to keeping an engineer happy.

I'm a developer like many people here. One thing that people who don't program don't realize is that its a laborious job. It seems like its a fun job with lots of 'hanging out' but its more like 4-5 hours a day

The last few teams I've worked on moved the daily Round Robin into slack. You would have to fill it out an hour after signing in and before you left for the day. Accountability was key and having it in the dev-chat saved a lot of time.

I've only had the apple watch 4 and the fitbit charge 3, so I'm no expert. For the past 3 months I've been using the Xiaomi Band 4. Battery life is coming on 16-17 days of a single charge, has plenty of watch faces, push noti

Smartphones barely beat the feature phone market share in 2013. That is not too long ago. Q1 2019 saw a 40% market share with high adoptions in India, Africa and Latin America. This is because in developing countries, data is expensive. I b

I think what that investor did is quite appalling. In turn going public with the incident resulted in more funding, which leaves me a bit conflicted. If your product or service is good enough to garner interest by a firm she could have said

This post starts off with 'programming is a basic human skill' then lists barriers for success. Programming is for everyone. There is a reason this planet has both 10 year old and 84 year old developers. We should view programming

Spend less time on HN, Lobste.rs and various subreddits. Focus on improving as developer. Maybe learn Python and learn some red hat skills. I should write more as well.

At my organization (large thinktank that works with IGO’s) we use mensa testing and have a bias towards pattern recognition. Its not perfect but it serves as metric for aptitude.

I felt like this after my first job where I wrote Java and Perl for three years before moving to a full-stack position that was heavy on JS. What helped the most was building numerous hobby apps in node and thousands of leetcode questions.

I don’t think it matters. Learning a stack because there are a lot of hot job postings for it will only keep you in framework hell. If you had to choose, choose the one with a community that you like and want to be around. I’m happy I stuck

I’m quite satisfied with my move away from google products. Moved from gmail to protonmail. Chrome to firefox and search to ddg. Ddg isn’t perfect though and I find myself using !g tag more often than I’d like.
