I apologize if my tone came off as rude. I try to match the tenor of the person I am responding to. My question was also asked in good faith. If you understand what an open compound is, but don't consider chow mein to be an open compou

> super unrelated words Did you mean to say that these were all super related, not unrelated, words? Crenel, buttress, hearth, stables, dungeon, gargoyle, throne, flag are all words relating to castles - some like crenel, explicitly so.

I didn't say anything about creativity being useful or profound. My point was that neither is it measured by vocabulary, which this seems to be testing.

The rules explicitly say: > Think of the words on your own (e.g., do not just look at objects in your surroundings). I guess technically they don't say to not listen, just to not look.

Yes, definitely this. I do not see how this test claims to measure creativity. It is essentially a vocabulary test.

The title is inaccurate. There is nothing in here about "cult recruitment", more just the author not being comfortable with the vibe someone was giving off. Which is fine, but it's a far cry from "cult".

The problem is spammers harvesting emails. Git* makes harvesting emails ridiculously easy. Therefore some solutions are needed (e.g. using Github-assigned email address aliases instead of user-supplied email addresses).
144.
by Ansil849 5y ago
I would 1) report it to Github, 2) flag it as spam in your web mail client, 3) report it as spam to whatever mailing service the company may be using (Sendgrid, Mailchimp, whatever).

Yes, I'm aware of how commits work, my point is that this kind of practice goes hand in hand with making it easy for spammers to harvest user emails.

by Ansil849 5y ago
Yes, these kinds of marketing tactics are disgusting and despicable, but the broader issue is why does Github facilitate them by making user emails discoverable? There are tools like github-email [1], which allow you to: > Retrieve a Git
