The 'picking winners' part is most certainly providing value! If you can, more accurately than at random, look at a bunch of ideas and say which ones are going to be successful and which aren't, so that you (or others) can fu

No capital powerhouse achieves 20% year over year. Some capital company maybe gets that each year, but they take losses in different years, so it's just swapping places. Berkshire Hathaway averages what, 9% a year?

As others have said, a stagnant (0% growth) economy still has many positive sum trades within it. If all trading stopped happening, you wouldn't see the GDP remain at the same level; it would crash to basically 0 as almost no one would

I guess what I always find unconvincing about these kind of arguments is that they require 0-sum trades, and real world trades are positive sum. I think this is more of a gambling simulation than an economic one. However, even with positive

There were a ton of taxi related apps but none of them did what Uber did; at least in London. There were apps where you could book a taxi, telling them when and where to pick you up, but if you expected anyone to show up in the next 5 minut

AFAIK there's no actual theory - no specific model one can evaluate. The couple attempts by economists to critique MMT were always met with the response that the thing being critiqued isn't actually MMT (but never with specifics o

I'd still rather remember/type/say three words than something like 5P56+4Q. I'm really surprised that no one thinks pronounciability has value.

I used to plug my AKG k702s (which are maybe not 'audiophile' $2k headphones, but are good enough) into a pixel 1 without any issues. Alas after an 'upgrade' to a pixel 3 after I crushed the first one against the deck wh

The issues you list don't really seem to be relevant in regard to duplicate resource creation? They're just about handling creating the resource in the first place. As long as the uuid is persisted you can redirect all attempts to

If your goal is to convince other people of what you believe, all of those sound useful. If your goal is to be convince if you're right, and be convinced if you're aren't, they become less so.

Are you contesting that ads work better for good products, or that such would imply more good products across advertised products? The mechanism for the first is quite intuitive. An add can make someone buy something once. If that thing is

Of course all companies use ads, including unscrupulous ones. But ads work better for companies with a real product, and therefore you expect the % of good products among advertised products to be higher than among non-advertised ones.

But this is exactly why sponsored results are good for the searcher. Products that people are willing to spend money advertising will usually be better for you, especially in a context where repeated custom is likely.
