Financial IT is interpretable, maybe, but is the financial system itself? You have a lot of agents taking actions that you can't really interpret from outside - unless you say something vacuous like this person made this trade because

Sidestepping comedy for a bit, there are a lot of inscrutable systems that we connect to 'things that matter' all the time. The financial systems themselves are pretty damn inscrutable. Corporations are very often inscrutable.

Well, sure, it's better than having an even worse type system! No one's saying java's type system is worse than not having anything.

The bots presumably "learned" that the other heroes act the way that the bot would have acted were they in that position (i.e. all my allies run the same algorithm, so I can predict what they would do)

Regular dota players learn to play without the courier anyway, because someone always feeds it away or uses it to ferry themselves a magic stick. So maybe playing without a courier at all would be more representative of the pub experience ;

Same argument applies to pushing and defending towers, getting rax etc. Assuming that the devs did not hardcode rewards for those objectives, then the AI surely already has to 'understand' events that impact the game in long term.

> And this is, well, uhm, well... acceptable? It is not. The only purpose of a type system is to prevent broken code from compiling. When it fails to do so, it is broken.

In what context? Consulting or employment? It would be very weird for someone employed full time in Poland to disappear for weeks.

Writing is great for one-way communication. If you actually mean to collaborate, if you don't know what you don't know and what to ask the other person, in-person communication is way more efficient. And it turns out if you'r

Disagree. Main reason why I don't talk to recruiters is the incentive mismatch - they work for the company, not for the job seeker, and I can't really trust their advice. In a model where a recruiter is paid by the jobseeker; i.e.

The problem they're trying to solve is also not how to recognise actions from pixels, it's how to outstrategise and outexecute players at the game. Conceptual rather than mechanical advantage.

You can attempt to attack / move to / cast many spells on arbitrary pixels on the map. The bots are shown casting spells on targets that aren't visible in the demo. The amount of available targets probably blows up the count.

Wait, are you saying you'll take a bet where you pay 10^15 to 1 if we do not find life out there? I'll take you up on that for $0.01 on my side.

Why can't you estimate probability of something speculative? Of course it must be speculative if you're talking probabilities; otherwise you'd just know if the life is out there or not. If the assumptions are very speculative

Well, rating someone 4/5 is only a problem if everyone else rates 5/5 for merely acceptable service. So perhaps we should evangelise for lower ratings, rather than squeeze everyone into 5/5?

Right, but what this means is a business often can't support itself via a mix of subscription and ads - if you offer both for the same content the value of your adds will likely crash, so it's mostly equivalent to just being subsc

The users that can afford and would buy this service are exactly the ones that advertisers want to reach. If you stop showing them ads or only share data for people not willing to pay, the data becomes useless.

Except people's expectations and standards are shaped by what they are surrounded by; what's available. Now that you're exposed to way more profiles, that all feel available, standards naturally rise.
