God is the ultimate cause for everything, but that doesn't make it "complete" or mean it claims to be complete or anyone claims it to be complete, anymore than anyone would claim the Big Bang makes physics complete. The evang

If you're willing to accept the existence of magic, physics-defying UFOs, then at least some fundamentalists seem equally well grounded in providing an entirely different non-spacefaring-alien explanation for them. At any rate, I don&#

Nobody thinks Pope is “canonical”, they look at Pope as essentially a retelling or adaption. Wilson’s “translation” falls in the same category, except she doesn’t have the genius of Pope. I suppose this is what you mean by “parti pris”, but

Wilson’s a “lauded” translator only because of the clique she’s in. In 50 years her mediocre translation will be forgotten in the dustbin of history.

I don't think that particular UK law applies here. Similarly, in the US, that's not how it works. You can absolutely be liable for your children's charges. In the US, it took FTC action and class-action lawsuits for deceptive

I am probably much more extreme than you on this issue. If I were dictator, tablets would be banned for children and in-game transactions would be illegal. (It isn't just children it takes advantage of.) But this class of problem is br

To me this falls in a grey area. Your friend in this scenario is committing fraud and/or theft. They're obviously not going to be your friend anymore, unless it was a mistake they immediately correct when notified and pay you back

Ironically, this kept the overall bluecheck quality fairly stable. People used to be gifted bluechecks for knowing the right people or being some variety of celebrity or influencer, rather than because they were good or thoughtful writers.

Maybe they were right, and social media is even worse. TV, for instance, has pretty clearly been a net negative due to its impact on the social fabric and people’s, especially children’s, minds. The fact social media is even worse doesn’t c

Life expectancy after age 5 has not budged much over the centuries, though you’ll find most graphs begin at a trough circa 1900. Prior to that it was about the same as it is now in many countries. So “we’re living longer” is not the answer,
