I'm well aware of Disney's business strategy. I don't care if they make their millions still. I care much more about all the works that cannot find an audience because of uncertain copyright status, and not enough commercial

What would your ideal copyright regime look like? Mine would be different than what we have now, it'd be 20 years or artists lifetime, whichever is shorter - then 10 year long renewals are possible after that, but the cost of the renew

I mean his comment history is on par with who he says he is - I think it's a great name. Just because I work mostly in the digital domain doesn't mean I dont long for the analog.

A modernized version of Toolbox in the form of Carbon running as native unix applications in a preemptive multitasking system on A/UX would have been pretty good - maybe not as good as Cocoa, but good enough probably. Is win32 fundamen

Arguably the Occupation of Japan was more important than the carpet bombing for changing Japanese culture. We brought in many new ideas - both in business and in government - most of which persist in some form today - and the Japanese in ma

Huh. I wonder what other HP/Agilent gear supported this - I have a service monitor that I'm pretty sure does not - but a scope would be nice.

If you look at maps and satellite photos, boundaries that ceased to exist long ago are often quite visible today. You can spot the borders of spanish land grants still in Los Angeles and North Orange County still for example. You'll se

I see 'no fault' divorce as an extension of islamic divorce law - in practical terms its not an aberration though - we'd been employing various legal fictions in divorce cases to grant pseudo no-fault divorce as far back as t

I still think Apple has a missed opportunity with iMessage - dual platform support 10 years ago would mean no WhatsApp, which is universal is much of the world. Hindsight is always 20/20 I guess.

I'm astounded HP made commercial products out of a process with such a low yield, I dont know how that was economical. (though none of the HP gear was exactly low margin)

With at most a ~30 min dispatch time, I dont know why a turbine wouldn't be adequate - what the turbines can't do, I would think a battery storage should be able to do. I suspect we have the same issue in Texas too. What gets me i

I dont know why you're being downvoted, you're correct. We need base load capacity to replace thermal fossil fuel generation, it's not negotiable if you want the lights to work reliably 24 hours a day, no matter the weather c

Nuclear also generates base load - I dont think zero fossil fuel is possible (peaking is the hard one to solve), but I know its not even close to possible without replacing the base load supplied by thermal plants - without base load capaci

More importantly, Nuclear generates the base load capacity that renewables struggle with - the 27,000 MW is great, but its use it or lose it, as we dont have anywhere near the capacity in place to store the excess - nor will I think we will

You actually can float the gears if you're good, no double clutching required. I learned how to drive a stick in a semi-truck - no synchros there - it makes it hard for me to drive a synchronized one.
