I think a "related to", "reply to" or "topic threading" mechanism would be neat, but possibly difficult to work out. People generally want to submit their own threads for various reasons (adsense, unique-impressions, karma, etc...). The t

Perhaps you're missing the point of the article? The original poster is complaining that evaluating a "Community Relations Manager" against their ability to reguritate the first half of Skiena's algorithm book (on a whiteboard, without sy

The original poster seems to be complaining more about the validity of the testing, rather than the fact that testing is happening. For a role in developer relations, the real core competencies should be very high scores on "soft skills".

Thanks for this. I really love "revenue report" type posts, especially when they're so open about where the money comes from and what the actual numbers are.

The title sounds a lot like the sort of press release republishing that goes on in games reviews. Remember when XP came out? (oh god, did I just age myself) That was also chock-a-block full of press release style articles in the news about

The first thing I thought about when I saw the page was "New Node Logo". Turtle with a rocket-ship on the back is about a trillion times cooler than that hexagonal thing that they've gone with. (at least it's my personal preference). Oh

I think there was more to it than that. It also came to the conclusion that a $130 video card (Ati 5830) can earn $540 a year. A system costing $1710 could earn $5300 per year. Assuming a $14 bitcoin that represents a 210% return on invest

I was really glad to get an advanced look at the "new" logo. I prefer the old one so much that I've stashed a copy locally in case I ever want to get it printed on a t-shirt. The new one is horrible! The point to point graph under the hex

To be fair, nobody will ever raise a normal child who does not lie. It's an adaptive behavior brought about in most children by the age of three, but some studies indicate that it develops earlier in more intelligent children[1]. That's n

That's a pretty clear example of an ad hominem argument. Whether he has kids or not has no bearing on the points of his argument.

Oh! I'd never noticed tab pinning in chrome. Thanks. I agree that the FireFox is just copying chrome's style, but their "spaces" still gives them a slight advantage in my mind. If chrome adds a slick tab groups management system, I'd proba

I started using Chrome pretty much the day it came out. I don't know what exactly drew me in, but something made me keep coming back to it. Just a couple of days ago, Firefox 5 came out, and it's the same thing. I like the new 'spaces'

I think there is a lot of value in the level of demographic targeting you get by simply calling yourself the HackerNews community jobs board. It doesn't necessarily have to be exclusive (though eliminating recruiters would be my preference)

Look up big five personality test online. (Check my other comment in this thread for a link) you'll find that E/I is a spectrum of opposites. Most likely you sit somewhere in the middle - or score high in both E & I.

Yes and no, I've spent the last two weeks building and launching a node.js project and it's really really fast. Blazingly so. I've got a PHP project at http://fstr.net and its pageloads take about 4 to 5 seconds under normal load. With
