Hacker News has built in re-submission detection. Put in a link that's been posted before and it gets caught. The headline on this thread is based on a Straw-Man fallacy, and in my opinion has a nasty 'tone' to boot. How can one assume omn

I know HackerNews has this generally accepted policy of not making 'frivolous one liner' type comments... but I just did a spit-take laughing at this one.

I too thought it was good "food for thought" but sometimes have concern about the "analysis paralysis" these sorts of things can create. This might be required for larger investments and bigger projects, but sometimes there's just no substi

oh. this is interesting. Is there a place on Stack or Linkedin where I can tie my profiles together? I did a quick scan and couldn't see anything (or should I put it in my stack-bio?).

I understand where you're coming from - but - I'm of a mixed opinion of whether that's actually true. Asking a lot of questions might be equally valuable if they're questions of increasing complexity, that show growth and development over

I read the article a while back by the chap who got headhunted based solely on his Stack rep. It made me think "heck. I'd best get started on that". So I made a conscious effort to answer questions. I loaded up the questions list and ...

Doesn't it also reduce the cost of that bureaucracy? The article also argues that people actually have an intrinsic motivation to work (to get nice things for themselves and their children). Notice the bits about the findings in Nimibia?

I'm not entirely sure what the UK is doing differently. I didn't even notice that it "wasn't there" until I got back. It was only after I returned that I realized the difference. I know that in Toronto, I sometimes get the feeling that th

Can I vote this up twice? A little over a year ago, I moved returned to Canada (Toronto) after five years in the UK. One of the most striking things I noticed was the difference in homelessness between here and there. I later read Gladwell

I've read this a few times and am trying to parse exactly what you mean. The million dollar offers tend to go to people who keep their head down and quietly work hard, possibly doing less-than-glamorous work (As opposed to the big-shot high

Well you could try getting a DomainTools domain history report as well. If they've not dropped it since 2001 they're probably not going to drop it in 2012. Go to domaintools and do a whois on the site there. They can tell you things like

This is something a bit rough around the edges (to say the least) but I think it's kinda neat. I've been trying to cobble this together to see if I could create a "google page preview live search" type of engine. Still a mountain of work to

I couldn't get this out of my head. It's sorta what I think their visual page preview should be. Obviously there's still a mountain to do before it's usable - but I think it's a neat / fun hack that you might enjoy on a friday afternoon :)
