Incredibly fun hack to make it work (start of the video): TLB flushing is a bit hard, so let's reset the GPU after each frame(!!!). And at the rate this advances, this comment will probably be obsolete in less than a week !

Wow, thanks for the pointer to the devel branch. I retract some of my criticism, this seems to be done fairly properly (except in 2021 when I looked where the commits where basically time dumps). I don't get the need to squash though.

This "standard model" had a SoC refresh too. And as said elsewhere in the thread, it's now cheaper in USD (how components are priced) than it was when GBP was at 1.30+.

PS5s are relatively easy to buy in bundles; if you're lucky you'll have a game you wanted, except at list price instead of market price, but most of the time you'll have useless overpriced accessories and average games. In fa

It's crazy that amidst this cost saving, Sony is still going forward with the price increase in some markets.

If only it was the only thing... Did you know Dolby is actively fighting open source software like VLC behind the scenes ? Anyone having a Dolby license is pressured to stay away from VLC, even when it's a superior technical solution.

I just started a rewatch recently, and it seems it's not an exact copy of the original show's script. For example, in the US version, Denom makes a second call to "disregard" firing the entire floor that doesn't wor

While this is true in the absolute sense, it's one of those things where you have to think about non-technical users: something like this would just confuse them, unless you make it very clear in the message that either one of those ar

Interesting tidbits to HN users, who like to complain about new Twitter accounts being disabled and required to add a phone number: this is called "ROPO" internally, and multiple executives actually want that to be disabled. But

Funny, I initially thought that BSL was the infamous Business Source License, a proprietary source-available license with an automatic switch to (usually) Apache 2.0 four years after each release. But no, it was the Boost Software License.

Not much, see sibling comment. It used to be the minimum quality for enjoyable 4k. (4k Blu-Ray discs have much higher bitrates with HEVC). But since, Netflix heavily optimized their encoding, greatly reducing the bandwidth needs.
