This reminds me of the good old time when trackers like Scream Tracker 3 and Impulse Tracker were the hot thing! They too were programmed by writing sequential "code". This felt more natural and easier to use than most GUIs of that time.

I'd position pd not against low-level stuff but as a complementary to them, just as Matlab. It is easier to prototype new ideas and algorithms in an environment with higher abstraction level. After you know what you want, HC-implementation
