Well, it’s certainly invective against psychologists, people with learning difficulties, and IQ. I think he grossly undervalues naive pattern recognition. Natural complex systems are emergent from very simple interactions with mind boggling

Yeah it’s interesting. There’s nothing to the video that takes advantage of the video format except the characters. It’s a series of slides with a voice track over it. Generally, YouTube math videos (as a genre) have some form of animation

I said short list, not no list. Homelessness is more than sleeping rough too. That is a fantastic picture though.

The US is a large country and for its lack of health care I reckon it would be worse. Canada is obviously colder. But Britain is positively grim.

Obviously FT is British but I think it can be hard to fathom just how grim Britain is. It’s properly cold. Doesn’t really get warm in summer. Of the developed nations on Earth the list of worse places to be homeless is short.

It is jarring and since you brought it up there are very few good analogies in other cultures. e.g. I know a few people go off about lions in European heraldry but lions were at one point spread across Eurasia-Africa. It’s just not a good a

The AI companies don’t want you “anthropomorphising” the models because it would put them at risk of increased liability. You will be told that linear algebra is just a model and the fact that epistemology has never turned up a decent resul

Isn’t the empty set a subset of all sets? A quick look at Wikipedia indicates that there exist other constructions.

I don’t think that fictionality is orthogonal to notability. I do think that something that occurs in fiction is inherently less notable than the equivalent event occurring in real life no matter how popular the work of fiction. I agree on

Not at all. Once you start permitting large amounts of fiction in Wikipedia then what’s to stop any sort of fiction being included? Why not just have articles full of lies? Fundamentally fiction is lies. Just because a large group of people

True but my view on that is that governments don't want anyone else to be the first with AI AGI... and therefore they will strive to be the first. Kinda like how a big motivation for the atomic bomb was the threat of Germany developing

I don’t think I have purported to have the answers to those questions. Just that AI has the potential to change every job on the planet and there is a huge amount of money to be made.

I have spoken with dozens of other academics who have been using it to iterate both quickly and effectively in both their research and teaching. AI hasn’t seen positive ROI yet but it is producing work of value already.

Sure heaps of money will be burnt on hype but the hype exists because of the truth, AI is capable of creating more value than all of humanity put together if done right.
