I worked in a place where excel was used for ad-hoc calculations. We became a Google shop. Sheets was a piece of junk compared to excel. Anyone who did any real work rather than just looking at a spreadsheet or using a template got Excel ba

Jonny Ive left and Apple decided thinness wasn’t the only value. 100% Apple Silicon is that for computers. Very rarely do my fans whizz up. It’s noticeable when someone is using an x64 and you’re working with them because you will hear thei

My only regret is getting base RAM. It’s not a server so it’s not a crime to not always be using all of it and it’s not upgradable so it needs to be right the first time. I should have got 32GB to just be sure.

Halloween is deeply rooted in the shortening days, the harvest, the spookiness of the transition, the otheworldliness. In Australia it’s considered fine to go out during the day. It’s really centred on the lollies/candy/sweets. D

Sometimes things change, sometimes we chose the wrong abstraction. Unless you’re writing the Linux kernel you shouldn’t write it like the Linux kernel.

Halloween is interesting in that I never really felt like I owned Xmas, Easter, or New Years as a kid. But Halloween (and also the nearby Bonfire Night, and at the end of winter Beltane) was just so hugely part of our world. Harvest in the

Thank you. That was beautiful. Demonstrated the difference in design/engineering philosophies from two of the greats.

We can. Scientific notation with 1 significant figure can be meaningful because we can use it to figure out order relations. It’s an infinite language.

Pick up the benefits of ending IPv4 development sooner. One less thing to ship with every bit of network software. One less learning outcome taught in every networking course. One less piece of organisational complexity in every ISP. Fewer

Static IP here in Australia costs AUD 5 per month for residential users… I think it’s just a price signal to entirely disincentivise it to anyone who doesn’t need it.

I agree but I always thought YouTube was a great name for what it was. It was me choosing what was on (no pesky programming) and us making videos. It’s very different now but “you”, as in me, was very central to my idea of what YouTube was.
