Probably, as the $5 instance is only 1 core. You might be able to squeeze more on if you aren't using much memory, or don't mind adding swap space (ssd swap is fast enough for me...)

Just to make sure you didn't miss a simple step (like I have before...) after you spin up an instance, they email you the ssh login details. Did you check your email?

I'm using a 1gb droplet, ubuntu 12.10 with a LEMP stack, PHP5 and MySQL 5 for a low traffic site (Xenforo-based forum) as well. Maybe the difference is nginx vs Apache? edit: I also added an additional 1gb as swap space, which helped p

What you are describing is overselling , and I am under the impression that overselling is less possible with KVM, what DigitalOcean uses.

I've also had the pingdom monitoring on a droplet for the last 2 months and the only downtime I've been alerted to was my fault. Maybe it's on your end?

Not really a story. Ouya cheaps out, doesn't pay for an E3 booth. Acts surprised when their booth outside the event is reported. It's fun to play up the David v. Goliath story, but this isn't it.

Wow. Demanded? Weakening rhetorical position? It's like you think comments are some sort of game where you can win or lose. I think I'll just let readers read my comments and opt out of this silly game you want to play.

It's impossible to have a meaningful conversation if you intentionally view anyone else's opinions in the worst possible light . You may have a valid interpretation of what I said, but it's clearly not the interpretation I intended to conv

Anyone who believes that charity and giving are not morally good actions clearly has a warped and extremely cynical worldview.

Not everyone subscribes to such a dark, cynical view of the world. I realize that there are thousands of invisible advantages I have over an identical me born in Africa. Giving to charity is a small way of shrinking the gap.

I agree with the author, EC2 seems really expensive compared to other clouds. One of the comments suggested DigitalOcean, which has much better pricing, and you can do flexible by the hour pricing and it has a rest API to bring up/down serv

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing By that definition, "Don't Be Evil" is the same as doing nothing. Google can play up the not evil card all it wants, but that doesn't make them good .
